Green Initiative: Monitoring & Reducing Our Gas Usage
I am disappointed that the Board has chosen not to support a campaign to reduce our gas usage, which would benefit both our finances and the environment. We need access to the weekly gross gas consumption data, a fundamental metric that should be monitored as a matter of course. This means we lack the ability to measure accurately the campaign's impact.
However, we can still take proactive steps. As an alternative, I propose tracking window open levels as an indirect metric.
NB it is vital open windows about 4 times a day. 4 or 5 minutes is sufficient.
Proposal:
The Task: A small group of residents will anonymously monitor a sample of roughly 50 windows to track the percentage that are open. This metric will be used to encourage residents to be aware of gas being used to heat the planet rather than our flats. Only raw anonymous percentages will be released.
Privacy: Window locations will be entirely anonymous, and identities will not be recorded.
Timing: The monitoring schedule will be set by the working group.
Baseline Data: We need to begin monitoring before the campaign starts to establish a baseline.
While the Board's lack of cooperation means we cannot track our exact gas savings, we can still make a tangible difference together. If you would like to actively support this initiative, please send me a message.
